Graduate Republic

The Gateway to the Public Sector

Oxford University

Graduate Republic has been designed to help young people and graduates to find jobs within the Public sector.

The Public Sector is facing a staffing crisis, which is likely to have an adverse impact upon the delivery of services in the near future.

In the second quarter of 2006, over 5.8 million people were employed by local and central government and public corporations.  This equates to 20.2 % of the UK workforce.

The current age profiles of those working within the Public Sector show that 44% of employees are aged 35 to 49 years of age and 28% are aged over 50. In contrast only 6.3% fall within the 18-24 age range.

Undoubtedly, in order, to secure future provision of services there is a real need to promote the Public Sector to sixth formers and students. Graduate Republic will provide students with accessible information as to the challenges, opportunities and benefits of the broad spectrum of employment within the Public Sector.

Young People StudyingThe Site will challenge many of the misconceptions held amongst students who might otherwise not consider a career in the Public Sector.

Graduate Republic also includes a section called "View From" where we feature many of the key opinion formers and decision makers within the sector who share their experiences with visitors to our website.

The searchable employer database offers visitors the opportunity to read profiles on many of the organisations within this sector, many of who are looking to recruit sixth formers and graduates.

The jobs database contains specific vacancies that our public sector employers may be looking to fill.
