Multi Racial Group JumpingIt is always worth gaining experience within your chosen sector as soon as is feasibably possible. Basically, the more work experience you have, the better your job chances when you Graduate.

Why look for Work Experience

Helps you to stand out from others competing for the same role.

You demonstrate to a potential future employer, that you are prepared to work hard to achieve your goals

You develop a knowledge of the sector in which you are going to work, therefore you are more likely to settle into the role.

You will be able to "hit the ground running" as you are likely to already have a knowledge of the procedures and practices within similar organisations.

You are likely to have already decided that the sector you have chosen is for you. There is therefore less risk for both employer and employee.

If you are working for an organisation, many posts are published internally before they are given external exposure. This offers a greater insight into up and coming vacancies.  

While on Work Experience you have the opportunity  to question and learn from those who have an indepth knowledge of the sector and the organisation.

Where to find Vacancies

Many Local Authorities advertise opportunities on the Council websites, and many will call you to discuss your requirements once you have completed a basic online form.

You can look for opportunities in the press and online

You can also write speculatively to organisations which can be effective, as many companies like Sixth Form students and Graduates to show initiative.
