The main work of the Forestry Commission is to advise forestry ministers on appropriate policy and ways of implementing that policy throughout Britain. By making sure the public forest estate is managed efficiently and in a sustainable way, their work brings many diverse benefits. These range from delivering high-quality scientific research and surveys, to informing the development of forest policies and practices, not to mention promoting high standards of sustainable forest management. Working for Britain's largest estate manager, their 3,500 staff currently have responsibility for over 2 million acres of land in Scotland, Wales and England.
